Jim Stoutenborough Jim Stoutenborough is responsible for working with our long-term clients in developing investment plans and on changes to their investment portfolios. He's responsible for monitoring the day-to-day change in clients' portfolios, including deposits, withdrawals, and investment transfers. Jim prepares retirement projections to estimate amounts needed to save for retirement under various scenarios.
Jim is a Certified Financial Planner™ Certificant, and began his career in the financial planning industry in 1994. CFP®s concentrate their studies in six areas: retirement planning, investments, tax strategies, pension and employee benefits, estate planning, college planning, and insurance.
Jim further enhanced his investment and tax planning expertise through his years with American Century, a leading financial firm in Kansas City. His experience there as an adviser to high-asset clients, in portfolio asset allocation, and in handling account inquiries and account trades, transfers well to financial planning for high net worth clients. At American Century, Jim used investment research and market information with both clients and management. His work in the mutual fund and the brokerage areas there has enabled Financial Security Advisors to improve operations. Jim supervised staff handling client relations and systems while at American Century.
His time at American Express Financial Advisors further developed his financial planning skills. Jim's experience there covered retirement planning, investment and insurance planning, college projections, taxes, and estate planning. Jim also has prior management experience in the retail sector.
A native of Illinois, Jim has lived in Kansas City since 1987, except for a year in Manhattan, Kansas. Jim graduated from University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois with a BS in business administration.
Jim is a dedicated participant in Toastmasters and serves his chapter as Sergeant at Arms. He is an active member for the firm in the area Northeast Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, and participates in the chamber's legislative committee.

Joan DeMossJoan DeMoss is our financial analyst and joined our firm in 2003. Registered ParaplannersSM concentrate their studies in seven areas: retirement planning, investments, tax strategies, pension and employee benefits, estate planning, college planning, and insurance.
Joan focuses on estate planning, insurance analysis, cash management, and college planning for our clients. In doing so, she prepares college projections, life insurance analyses, and estate planning schedules. Joan also handles our P&C insurance reviews, and asset protection reviews.
She is responsible for reconciling all client investment accounts to our systems, enabling us to provide accurate analyses and reports. She oversees manual accounts, pensions and annuities. Joan prepares statistical analyses, manages our investment research, and prepares reports for mutual fund monitoring.
Joan previously assisted AT&T's customers so you may have spoken with her before! She attended Kansas City's Area Technical School and Donnelly College, and has added training in spreadsheet and word processing skills. She's a kind, steady-as-she-goes person, and a good fit here.
In 2010 Joan was appointed to the Law Enforcement Advisory Board for the Unified Government Commission of Wyandotte County. Joan is an active participant in the Central Avenue Betterment Association (CABA), a Kansas City, Kansas business organization. She is an officer in the area's Prescott Neighborhood Group, as well as in her church's Women's Missionary Society.
